How to Schedule TikTok Posts: Web, Shop, Queue, or API

How to schedule TikTok posts in 2026: TikTok's web scheduler (15 minutes to 10 days, Business Account, no edits), TikTok Shop's 30-day scheduler, a queue and CSV route, and the API with code.

TLDR: TikTok schedules posts for free, but only from the web upload page, only on a Business Account, only 15 minutes to 10 days ahead, and with no editing once scheduled. TikTok Shop creators get a second scheduler for shoppable videos that reaches 30 days and holds 50 at a time. A scheduler like PostZen removes the window and the account-type rule, adds a weekly queue and a CSV import, and keeps a post editable until it goes out. The API route schedules from your own code or an AI agent with one request, because TikTok’s Content Posting API has no scheduling of its own and publishes as soon as the upload lands. Limits checked against TikTok’s own pages and developer docs on September 26, 2026.

Can you schedule TikTok posts directly on TikTok?

Yes, with conditions. TikTok’s Video Scheduler has existed since 2021 and, as of September 26, 2026, the rules on TikTok for Business’s own page still apply:

  • It lives on the web upload page at tiktok.com. There is no scheduler in the mobile app for ordinary videos.
  • You need a Business Account. Switch a personal account under Settings and then Account if you want desktop scheduling.
  • The window is 15 minutes to 10 days ahead.
  • The time zone defaults to your computer’s setting.
  • Nothing can be edited after scheduling. Not the video, not the caption, not the time. To change anything, delete the scheduled post and upload again.
  • Scheduled posts appear next to drafts in your profile view, and you get a push notification when one goes live.

The steps:

  1. Log in at tiktok.com in a browser and click the upload icon at the top right.
  2. Upload the video, write the caption and hashtags, pick a cover frame, and set who can view it and whether people can comment or duet.
  3. Turn on the schedule toggle and pick a date and time.
  4. Click Schedule.

Ten days is the number that decides whether this is enough. A weekly batch filmed on Sunday fits. A month of launch content does not, and neither does anything you want to keep tweaking after you have set the time. The no-edit rule surprises people more than the window does, since the Instagram and LinkedIn schedulers both allow edits.

How do you schedule shoppable videos in TikTok Shop?

TikTok Shop creators get a separate, more generous scheduler for videos that carry product links. From TikTok Shop’s help page, updated May 2026 and covering the United States:

  • Available to all TikTok Shop creators, from the shoppable video posting page under More options, then Advanced settings, then Schedule post.
  • The window is 30 minutes to 30 days ahead.
  • Up to 50 scheduled videos per account at a time.
  • Scheduled videos stay private and out of analytics until they publish, and show a clock icon on your profile that only you can see.
  • Only public or limited visibility can be scheduled; private videos cannot.
  • To change the time or content, delete the scheduled post. It returns to Drafts for editing.

If you sell on TikTok Shop, this is the tool for product videos: a full month, batch-filmed, with the product links attached. It does not cover ordinary videos, photo posts, or accounts outside TikTok Shop, and it keeps the no-edit rule.

Which TikTok posts can you schedule, and where?

The comparison people usually want before choosing a tool. The TikTok columns come from the two pages above; the PostZen column comes from the TikTok platform docs.

Feature TikTok web scheduler TikTok Shop scheduler PostZen
Video post Yes Shoppable videos only Yes, one video up to 4 GB
Photo post (carousel) No No Yes, up to 10 images per request
Account type Business Account TikTok Shop creator Any account that connects
Where Web only App and web Dashboard, API, MCP

Scheduled posts held Not published 50 per account No stated cap
Edit after scheduling No, delete and re-upload No, delete and re-edit Yes, until it publishes
Privacy, comments, duet, stitch Set at scheduling Set at scheduling Set per post in settings

Paid partnership disclosure Yes Yes brandContentToggle, brandOrganicToggle
Sounds from TikTok’s library, effects, filters Yes Yes No
Weekly posting queue No No Yes
Bulk import No No CSV, up to 500 rows
Other platforms in the same post No No Nine more

The music row is the honest trade-off, and it is bigger on TikTok than anywhere else. The Content Posting API cannot add a sound from TikTok’s library or apply effects, so no third-party scheduler can either. A video that depends on a trending sound has to be finished inside TikTok’s editor, or sent to the creator’s inbox as a draft so they can add the sound before posting. Everything else in the table is easier from a scheduler.

How do you schedule TikTok posts with a scheduler?

A scheduler stores the video on its own servers and publishes it through TikTok’s API at the time you set. That is why it has no 10-day window, no Business Account rule, and why a post stays editable: TikTok has not seen it yet. PostZen does this three ways from one composer.

Pick a time. Upload the video or the photos, write the caption, choose the privacy level, decide whether comments, duets, and stitches are allowed, and set a date and time. Per-post time zones handle an audience in a different zone from your laptop. The social media scheduler page shows the calendar, and every scheduled post can be edited or cancelled until it goes out.

Use a queue. Define weekly slots once, then add videos to the queue without dates. Each takes the next free slot, occupied slots are skipped, and a queue holds up to 56 slots a week with its own time zone. This is how “post every day at 6 p.m.” works without a calendar. The posting queue page has the details.

Import a CSV. For a batch-filmed month, upload a CSV of up to 500 rows with the caption, platforms, profile, a schedule time and time zone or a use_queue flag, and up to 10 media URLs. TikTok gets its own columns: tiktok_privacy, tiktok_allow_comments, tiktok_allow_duet, tiktok_allow_stitch, tiktok_draft for rows that should land in the creator’s inbox, and tiktok_description. Rows are validated before anything is created, and each scheduled time has to be at least two minutes out. The bulk scheduling page includes a template.

All three produce the same object: a post with a TikTok target, a status that moves from scheduled to publishing to published, and a per-target error if TikTok rejects it. The TikTok integration page lists everything the target supports.

Can you schedule TikTok posts with the TikTok API?

Not by itself. TikTok’s Content Posting API has two modes, and neither has a clock. Direct Post publishes the video to the creator’s profile as soon as TikTok finishes processing the upload. Upload sends it to the creator’s inbox as a draft, where they finish it in the app. There is no scheduled-time parameter, so scheduling through the API always means a service that stores the video, keeps the creator’s token fresh, and starts the upload at the right moment.

Three other API facts shape any TikTok scheduler you build or buy:

  • New apps can only post privately. Until TikTok audits your app, Direct Post is limited to the creator’s self-only privacy level and five creators per 24 hours. Passing the audit took us six weeks and more than a dozen submissions; the TikTok API guide explains what reviewers check.
  • Tokens are short. Access tokens last 24 hours and are refreshed with a refresh token that lasts a year and can rotate, so a scheduler that publishes tomorrow has to refresh first.
  • Photos must be JPEG or WebP. A PNG photo post fails with a format error after the upload. PostZen converts PNGs to JPEG before sending them, which we added after hitting exactly that failure in production.

TikTok also enforces a daily post cap per creator and a 6-requests-per-minute limit per token, both covered in the API guide. The social media scheduling API guide explains why only Facebook Pages and YouTube schedule natively and how a scheduling layer works.

The shorter path: schedule a TikTok post with one request

If scheduling is a feature inside your own product, PostZen folds the upload, the token refresh, the audit, and the clock into one request. Send scheduledFor as an ISO 8601 time at least 60 seconds ahead, with the TikTok settings inside the target. TikTok requires a privacy level unless the post is going to drafts. This schedules a public video for 7 p.m. Eastern with comments on and duets and stitches off:

const response = await fetch('https://api.postzen.dev/v1/posts', {
  method: 'POST',
  headers: {
    Authorization: `Bearer ${process.env.POSTZEN_API_KEY}`,
    'Content-Type': 'application/json',
    // Optional: a retried request creates the same post once
    'x-request-id': 'launch-clip-tiktok',
  },
  body: JSON.stringify({
    content: 'Three things we changed in the new version. #buildinpublic',
    scheduledFor: '2026-09-30T23:00:00Z',
    mediaItems: [{ url: 'https://cdn.example.com/launch-clip.mp4' }],
    platforms: [
      {
        platform: 'tiktok',
        accountId: 'jh72r5nqk9wx3v8m1t4cz6bs0fy5dg3e',
        settings: {
          privacyLevel: 'publicToEveryone',
          allowComments: true,
          allowDuet: false,
          allowStitch: false,
          videoCoverTimestampMs: 1500,
        },
      },
    ],
  }),
})

const { post } = await response.json()
console.log(post._id, post.status) // "scheduled"

The same request in Python:

import os
import requests

response = requests.post(
    "https://api.postzen.dev/v1/posts",
    headers={
        "Authorization": f"Bearer {os.environ['POSTZEN_API_KEY']}",
        "x-request-id": "launch-clip-tiktok",
    },
    json={
        "content": "Three things we changed in the new version. #buildinpublic",
        "scheduledFor": "2026-09-30T23:00:00Z",
        "mediaItems": [{"url": "https://cdn.example.com/launch-clip.mp4"}],
        "platforms": [
            {
                "platform": "tiktok",
                "accountId": "jh72r5nqk9wx3v8m1t4cz6bs0fy5dg3e",
                "settings": {
                    "privacyLevel": "publicToEveryone",
                    "allowComments": True,
                    "allowDuet": False,
                    "allowStitch": False,
                    "videoCoverTimestampMs": 1500,
                },
            }
        ],
    },
    timeout=30,
)
response.raise_for_status()
post = response.json()["post"]
print(post["_id"], post["status"])  # scheduled

To queue instead of picking a time, drop scheduledFor and send queuedFromProfile with the profile name; the post takes the next open slot, and GET /v1/queue/next-slot tells you when. For a photo post, send 2 to 10 JPEG or WebP images and a title of up to 90 characters. To hand the video to the creator so they can add a sound before posting, set uploadAsDraft to true and leave the privacy level out. For a paid partnership, set brandContentToggle and keep the privacy level public or friends-only, because TikTok rejects branded content marked self-only. The same request also publishes to the other nine platforms through the social media API.

Can an AI agent schedule TikTok posts?

Yes, through the same endpoint. PostZen’s MCP server exposes the posts tools, so Claude, Cursor, Codex, or any MCP client can schedule a TikTok from a conversation. A prompt like:

Post this clip to TikTok at 7pm with the caption below, comments on, duets off.

becomes a createPost call with scheduledFor at 19:00 in your time zone, privacyLevel set to public, allowComments on, and allowDuet off. “Send it to my drafts so I can add a sound” becomes the same call with uploadAsDraft. The agent can also read the next open queue slot, list what is scheduled, cancel a post before it goes out, and read TikTok analytics for the account. Setup is an OAuth sign-in rather than an API key, and the TikTok MCP server page has the walkthrough and more prompts.

Do scheduled TikTok posts get less views?

No. TikTok’s explanation of how the For You feed recommends videos lists user interactions, video details such as captions and sounds, and device and account settings. It says nothing about how a video was submitted, and posts published through the API carry no label. We went through every platform’s statements and the published experiments in do scheduled posts get less reach. On TikTok the real risk is timing of a different kind: a video built on a trend that has cooled by the time the slot arrives. Schedule evergreen content and post trend content by hand, which is the same advice TikTok Shop gives its own creators.

Which way should you schedule TikTok posts?

Your situation Use
A Business Account, a laptop, and a week of videos at a time TikTok’s web scheduler
A video that needs a trending sound or an effect from TikTok’s editor Post it live, or send it to drafts from a scheduler
Shoppable product videos for a month of promotions TikTok Shop’s scheduler
A personal or creator account, or scheduling from a phone A scheduler
A daily rhythm you want filled without picking dates A scheduler with a queue
A month of clips in a spreadsheet, or several accounts A scheduler with CSV import
TikTok plus Instagram Reels and YouTube Shorts from one upload A scheduler
Scheduling as a feature inside your own product The API
An AI agent that drafts and schedules for you The MCP server

Start with TikTok’s own scheduler and move up when you hit a limit. The limits are predictable: ten days, web only, Business Account, no edits, no photo posts, and one network at a time. The Instagram and LinkedIn versions of this guide, how to schedule Instagram posts and how to schedule LinkedIn posts, follow the same shape, and the pricing page shows what the next step costs once a limit starts costing you time.

Frequently asked questions

Can you schedule TikTok posts for free?

Yes. TikTok's Video Scheduler on tiktok.com is free for Business Accounts and lets you schedule a video 15 minutes to 10 days ahead. TikTok Shop creators also get a free scheduler for shoppable videos, up to 30 days ahead. Third-party schedulers, PostZen included, usually offer a free plan capped by connected accounts or posts.

How far in advance can you schedule TikTok posts?

Ten days with TikTok's web scheduler, from a minimum of 15 minutes. Shoppable videos posted through TikTok Shop can be scheduled 30 minutes to 30 days ahead, with up to 50 scheduled at once. A scheduler that holds the video and publishes through the API has no TikTok-imposed window; PostZen only needs the time to be at least a minute in the future.

Can you schedule TikTok posts from your phone?

Not with TikTok's own scheduler, which lives on the web upload page and needs a Business Account. TikTok Shop's scheduler for shoppable videos works in the app. A third-party scheduler with a mobile-friendly dashboard or an AI agent lets you schedule a TikTok from a phone to any account type.

Can you edit a scheduled TikTok post?

No. TikTok says you cannot change the video, caption, or time after scheduling; you delete the scheduled post and upload again. The same applies to scheduled shoppable videos. A scheduler like PostZen keeps the post editable until it publishes, because the video has not been sent to TikTok yet.

Does TikTok have an API to schedule posts?

Not directly. The Content Posting API's Direct Post publishes as soon as the upload finishes, and its Upload mode sends the video to the creator's inbox as a draft. There is no scheduled-time parameter. Scheduling means a service stores the post and calls the API at the right moment, which is what PostZen does when you send scheduledFor.

Do scheduled TikTok posts get less views?

No. TikTok's published explanation of the For You feed lists interactions, video details, and account settings as signals, and nothing about how a video was submitted. Posts published through the API carry no label. A scheduled video underperforms when the trend has passed or nobody replies to early comments, not because it was scheduled.
